The brain is musical; neuroscience has proven through functional brain imaging that music engages more brain areas than anything else, and rhythm is the most important, fundamental aspect of music.
Your brain health and brain-body connection depend on rhythm.
Children, teens, and adults can engage with the rhythm-based music of inTime to help stimulate rhythm awareness, focus, timing precision and adaptive responses to stress, all of which supply your brain with the highest quality of stimulation it needs for optimal function.
As brain health and the brain-body connection improve, these abilities improve as well. inTime provides a personalized program of listening training and fun movement activities, using body, drum, and voice to help you keep your beat, and flow with the rhythms of daily life.
Created by the experts, inTime is an organic compilation of original compositions, based on a blend of world music with diverse percussion, string, and wind instrumentation, which accents the power of rhythm and sound frequencies. inTime was developed in the course of over 5 years by the multidisciplinary team behind The Listening Program®. The producers are occupational therapist Sheila Allen, composer and musician Nacho Arimany, and author, founder & CEO of Advanced Brain Technologies, Alex Doman.
The world music of inTime is entirely composed and played by Nacho Arimany, who brings his distinctive blending of rhythms and instrumentation, old and new, from cultures and regions across the globe. inTime's signature sound is achieved through masterful emphasis of orchestrated percussive rhythms and specified sound frequencies as the basis for a rich melodic and harmonic structure. Recordings were done in High Definition sound within natural acoustic space to capture the sound and spirit of over 100 instruments; including membranous drums from West Africa and the Middle East, clay drums from Nigeria, South India, and South America, seed instruments from Colombia and Brazil, Malian calebasses, Vietnamese wooden frogs, Peruvian/Flamenco cajons, Tibetan bowls and crotales, Indian bells, and Mexican whistles, along with cymbals, gongs, guitar, charango, harp, piano, body percussion, voice, and much more. Combined, they create the beautiful, powerful, and effective music of inTime.

Sleep matters. Lack of sleep comes with a high cost to our ability to learn, our health and safety, and quality of life. Most people don't get enough sleep.
In the short term, a lack of adequate sleep can affect judgment, mood, ability to learn and retain information, and may increase the risk of serious accidents and injury. In the long term, chronic sleep deprivation may lead to a host of health problems including, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression, and obesity.
The Listening Program® SLEEP is an auditory sleep aid that you listen to while you're going to sleep.
With technology created by a neuroscientist, TLP SLEEP uses nearly-inaudible sounds embedded in beautiful music created to help you go to sleep faster and stay asleep longer.
TLP SLEEP works where other products don't, because it uses two natural approaches to sleep. It triggers the motion-induced sleepiness that babies experience while being rocked and that most people feel while riding as a passenger in a car or train. The music simultaneously entrains the brain to the slower brainwave rhythms needed to sleep. This combination results in a sleep that's natural, easy, restful and refreshing.
How The Listening Program SLEEP Works
The technology behind The Listening Program® SLEEP is based on over 15 years of research in hearing, balance, and sleep by neuroscientist Seth Horowitz, Ph.D. It is a new approach to helping people of any age go to sleep more quickly and stay asleep longer. TLP SLEEP uses three kinds of sound that work directly on the brain in different ways.
1. Very low frequency sounds activate the vestibular system to trigger Sopite syndrome, the motion-induced sleepiness that babies experience while being rocked and that most people feel while riding as a passenger in a car or on a train.
2. Quiet "pink" noise shaped to match the sound signatures of heartbeats and breathing reduces activity in the brain's arousal centers to encourage relaxation.
3. Binaural beats — slightly different sound frequencies delivered to each ear to trigger frequency-following response between the brain's hemispheres — help the brain match the waveforms that characterize the stages of sleep.
The sleep-inducing technology embedded within the acoustically modified music created for TLP SLEEP uses all three methodologies.
Ad-hoc clinical testing has demonstrated the effectiveness of these algorithms in inducing sleep by reducing sleep latency and increasing efficiency in subjects ranging in age from 1 to 62, and has been shown to decrease sleep latency, increase sleep efficiency or both in up to 77% of people with normal binaural hearing.
Music created for SLEEP
The acoustically modified music programs within TLP SLEEP were composed, arranged, and recorded specifically for aiding sleep. They were created by Advanced Brain Technologies and an international team of experts, leaders in music effects research and production, psychoacoustics, and neuroscience. They include Vera Brandes, Alex Doman, Seth Horowitz, Lance Massey, Richard Lawrence, and Joshua Leeds, among others.
Each of the three music programs provides soothing, unobtrusive, instrumental music with subtle sounds of nature, and ambient music that entrains the brain to improve sleep regulation. Embedded within these beautiful recordings are proprietary neurosensory algorithms that produce sleepiness. The result is a sleep that's natural, easy, restful, and refreshing.

The Movement Program
The Movement Program is a sequence of progressive movements over a twelve-week period. Developed in collaboration between Leigh Academies Trust and Learning Solutions in the United Kingdom, it has been shown to significantly improve reading age and English results as well as balance, coordination, and the inhibition of primitive reflexes.
The Movement Program is based on many years of research which proves progress in learning outcomes is achieved by improving areas such as:
- Literacy Skills & Writing Skills
- Attention and Concentration
- Self Confidence
- Stress reduction and relaxation
- Visual skills of tracking, fixation, near and far focus, binocular vision
- Improved beat and rhythm leading to:
- Improved awareness of grammar,
- Significant reading progress
- Improved listening
- Better music ability
- Improved performance in sport
- Balance, co-ordination and vestibular development,
- Gross and fine motor skills,
- Hand / eye co-ordination,
- Midline crossing,
- Proprioception – the ability to sense the position, location and orientation of the body and its parts,
- Spatial awareness
- Improved emotional regulation,
The Leigh Academies Trust has conducted extensive trials since 2003 in both Secondary and Primary Schools and found The Movement Program helps to improve learning ability, educational progress and improves GCSE examination results.
The Movement Program has been rigorously developed and evaluated, by measuring the effect of the movements with large numbers of children in both Primary and Secondary Schools. It is most suitable for children aged 8-13 years.
From 2010 onwards, The Movement Programme was developed as a collaborative project between Leigh Academies Trust and Learning Solutions, an organisation based in Yorkshire that specialises in improving learning through developmental movement and sound programmes.
The outcome of this process is a carefully constructed, progressive sequence of movements which become increasingly complex over the course of the program. They are easily accessible, fun, and therefore effective in raising educational outcomes.
A full statistical analysis was conducted and it was very evident that The Movement Program had a significant impact upon reading by comparison with the control group who had received no intervention.
Figure 1. Reading results following implementation of The Movement Programme.
Reading levels in The Movement Programme (TMP) group rose significantly* over the
6-month period compared to the control group who had no intervention
*Statistical analysis not yet published by Leigh Academy Trust shows p=0.008, a highly significant gain in the TMP group.
Balance and coordination improvements following TMP
Significant improvements in balance and coordination (p=.041) were also seen when comparing the TMP group to the control group.
Improvements in such areas as balance and coordination and a reduction in the retention of primitive reflexes are understood to be an important factor in strong reading and attention skills.
Following these strong initial results Leigh Academy were interested to see if this relatively short intervention in Year 7 would have a long-term impact upon GCSE examination results. In theory, improving basic sensory skills should improve academic performance. Using the Fisher Family Trust predictions from Year 6 they were able to compare the results of TMP and control groups as well as the 125 ‘good readers’ group who were not initially involved and had received no intervention.
Between the implementation of the 12 week program in Year 7 and the Year 11 GCSE results no other intervention was used, all students were within the same school environment and received the same teaching.

The Belgau Balance Board is the most important piece in the LBP and is the cornerstone of our superior sensory integration approach. The board sits atop two rotating rockers allowing the user to increase the difficulty level. Because neural involvement increases at higher levels of balance difficulty, this unique board allows for precise adjustments and incremental increases in brain processing speeds. A grid on top of the board provides a mechanism for keeping the body centered allowing both sides of the brain to be equally involved. These features make the Belgau Balance Board an excellent tool for addressing a variety of brain processing issues. Activities on the board improve the integration and timing of both hemispheres of the brain as well as the integration and resolution of the vestibular, visual, audiological, kinesthetic, and tactile functions. As the brain becomes more efficient, learning problems like ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, CAPD, and poor math and reading are dealt with at their source.
The VMC Stick and Pendulum Ball combine to provide a very powerful brain process organizer. The VMC Stick is designed to provide for a variety of different activities at differing levels of difficulty. Using the VMC Stick helps to develop the ability to structure space, visualize motion in space, track objects, do pre-motor planning, execution, feedback/evaluation and then executive function planning as the user anticipates the next cycle of movements. It also improves the brain’s ability to effectively process information from various senses and use that information to plan and execute motor movements effectively. The VMC Stick is held horizontally in front with both hands. Because both arms move in unison as the Pendulum Ball is struck, the VMC Stick serves to integrate both sides of the body and, consequently, both hemispheres of the brain. As this happens the timing systems between the two hemispheres of the brain become synchronized and brain processing efficiency increases. Used with the Belgau Balance Board, the VMC Stick and Pendulum Ball are highly effective sensory integration devices.
By introducing targets into the activities, the precision requirements are increased. As the precision requirements increase, the neural processes in the brain must become more resolved. The VMC Stick can also be used to add variety and effectiveness to the activities. Games that include patterns and sequences are provided which help address sequencing difficulties experienced by many people with learning problems.
Like other parts of the LBP, the Target Stand and Pins improve the integration between the senses.
Set of three colored bean bags of different weights. The Bean Bags are an effective way of developing brain function. They are valuable in refining and extending the integration of the two brain hemispheres and of the various brain components that deal with spatial relations, timing relationships, visual processes, movement, gross and fine motor skills development and balance. Activities involving Bean Bags require the user to process information from the tactile, motor, vestibular and visual processing systems. Because many of the activities use sequences or patterns, Bean Bags, used in conjunction with the Belgau Balance Board, can be helpful in resolving the sequencing difficulties that are evident in a variety of brain processing disorders like ADD/ADHD and dyslexia. The Bean Bags can be used alone or with a partner.
Super Ball Toss Back The Toss Back Board is 16”x16” and has a numbered grid with nine squares on the top. It sits at an angle to the floor providing a surface suitable for returning a ball that is tossed to it. Throwing, catching, and controlling the motion of either one or two super balls while standing on the Belgau Balance Board stimulates the development and enhances the function of brain processes. Maximum brain performance depends on precise inputs through the vestibular, tactile, motor, auditory, and visual systems. Activities with the Toss Back stimulate the integration of these senses vertically, from the brain stem to the cortex, and horizontally, from one hemisphere to the other. This device addresses a variety of brain processing issues by engaging the user in a series of activities that improve brain timing, sequencing, proprioceptive control and body synchronization.
The Pendulum Ball is used to stimulate the timing between the two hemispheres of the brain. The ball can be adjusted to different heights allowing the period of the swing to be adjusted. Because the period of the swing is constant at any given length, activities using thePendulum Ball aid the brain in sensing, developing and refining the sense of timing. Controlling the motion of the ball requires the user to make mental plans, execute those plans, collect feedback and then process the results. When the ability to execute the movement matches the plan devised in the brain, the brain processes employed in conceiving the plan are validated. When the execution of the movement does not match the planned result, the brain engages in a recalibration process that serves as a basis for improving the neural efficiency of the process. Because the ball moves relative to the force applied, it is a valuable feedback device for developing brain structures that process visual space and the motor control of objects in visual space. By incorporating the Belgau Balance Board with the Pendulum Ball, integration between the two hemispheres of the brain as well as the tactile, visual, vestibular and motor systems is achieved.
Soundfield for the Classroom
Why Is Sound Amplification So Important?
We send our child to school every day in the hope that they will emerge 12 years later with all the skills they need to function independently in the world and realize their dreams.
For many children with or without Auditory Processing difficulties a classroom can be one of the most challenging environments for them to learn in. Class sizes are ever increasing, tricky kids with difficult behaviours are becoming more common. For our children to attend and focus on the teacher and ignore other distracting sounds around them long enough to learn can be overwhelming.
Educators and politicians have both spent a lot of time and money trying to revolutionize education, looking for something new that will bridge the achievement gap and leave no child behind.
Use of a sound-field amplification system can provide a teacher with the opportunity to maximize listening and learning opportunities in their classroom.
Among the many benefits are
- Improved academic achievement
- Increased attention to verbal instruction
- Decreased number of requests for repetition
- Reduced distractibility
- Improved ease of listening and teaching
- Reduced vocal strain and fatigue for teachers
Testimonial from Richmond Primary School South Australia
2nd April 09
We have four classes with sound field systems and the teachers in those rooms wouldn’t be without it now. They are thrilled with the instant attention gained effortlessly as they speak to the class in normal conversation. The children stay focussed for longer, understand instructions immediately and stay on task because they can hear so clearly and feel part of the lesson.
Our school has open classrooms adjacent to each other. The sound field systems eliminate competing noise. Teachers comment that group work is much easier to manage. They can be working with a group and without raising the volume, quickly instruct a group across the room to keep them on task. (The ‘voice from above’ is a great adjunct to the ‘eyes in the back of the head’).
Children love to use the microphone when presenting for the class. Teachers report that it really supports children with quieter voices and results in a more confident, articulate presentation style as students rise to the occasion of being amplified.
Some comments from teachers
- ‘I don’t go home so tired and with a sore throat any more’
- ‘I think it’s brilliant. I wish my child’s childcare centre had one’
- ‘I think every class should have one’
And the kids say
- ‘When the teacher uses the microphone you pay attention and so you know what to do’
- ‘You can even hear when she’s in the corridor’
- ‘It’s so easy to listen’
We can certainly notice a difference in student engagement and understanding in lessons. I can see there’s no going back. We will gradually work towards every class in the school having a system in the future.

Improving the Classroom Environment:
Classroom Audio Technology
By Christie Blazer—Supervisor, Research Services Assessment,
Research and Data Analysis, Miami-Dade County Public Schools
The rationale underlying the use of classroom audio systems in general education is simple: how well children hear their teacher affects how well they learn. Recent research has demonstrated that this simple technology is no longer just for students with hard of hearing issues, but students with normal hearing ability benefit from the use of classroom audio as well. The research synopsis by the Miami-Dade County Public Schools should be a “must read” for every educator in the country.
Recent research has demonstrated that students with normal hearing ability benefit from the use of classroom amplification systems. Amplification systems allow teachers to control, stabilize, and equalize the classroom acoustical environment so their voices are clearly audible over background noise at all locations within the classroom. Studies have found positive effects for students in amplified classrooms, including improved academic achievement and speech perception and increased on-task behaviour. Positive outcomes using amplification systems can only be achieved when the existing classroom instruction is effective. In other words, if students are not being provided with strategic instruction, the introduction of classroom amplification systems will not increase their levels of academic achievement or classroom engagement.
Teacher benefits include reduced vocal strain and voice fatigue and the ability to move more freely about the classroom. Schools using classroom amplification systems have reported significant decreases in teacher absences due to voice-related problems. School staff, students, and parents have responded positively to the use of amplification systems.
Although classroom amplification systems have long been used to help hearing impaired students, recent research has demonstrated that, as a support to an effective classroom teaching and learning environment, students with normal hearing ability also benefit from the use of these systems in their classrooms. The rationale underlying the use of classroom amplification systems in general education classrooms is simple: how well children hear their teacher affects how well they learn (Cole, 2006; Ross & Levitt, 2002). Dahlquist (1998) estimated that 75 percent of the school day is spent engaged in listening activities. Students can achieve at higher levels when they can hear clearly and don’t have to strain and guess at what the teacher is saying. Positive outcomes using amplification systems can only be achieved when the existing classroom instruction is effective.
In other words, if students are not being provided with strategic instruction, the introduction of classroom amplification systems will not increase their levels of academic achievement or classroom engagement. While this information is not intended to restructure our understanding of the developmental learning sequence, it can certainly be a foundation for the delivery of good instruction.
