One of the great joys in Links to Learning's work is seeing positive results from people who partake in their progams. The personal growth and confidence that emerges not only reflects in the person undertaking the program but has positive effects on those around them. They have received many letters from very satisfied parents and clients and have chosen to share a few of those with you. The Listening Program - Client Testimonial E. is 10 years old. She is a very bright girl, who is highly sensitive and emotional. Although E. had been working ahead of her year level with above-average results, I felt there was a barrier with her learning that I could not identify. With her school work and learning a lot of the time she would know all the answers without knowing how she arrived there and sometimes she would struggle. This would result in anger and frustration. E. has a brother and a sister and quite often there would be conflict between the siblings. During the program there were many changes. We went through protesting and resentment. E. could feel her ability to read slow down in order for her to better comprehend the information. Changes which have had a positive effect include: new friends, more eye contact, new interests, more affectionate, increase in vocabulary, more thoughtful, more gentle, better at beginning and completing tasks, and staying focused. The changes with the most impact have been improvement in sibling interaction, and more talking and communication. These two points especially have added to an improvement in the quality of family life (fantastic!!). Academically, E. has been getting excellent results at school. Physically, she has increased confidence in her sporting ability. She also has more control over her emotions. Overall, I would have to say she is more comfortable with herself. The Listening Program - Client Testimonial A. was 3 and a half years old when we started the program. For 18 months prior, his aggressive behaviour had been progressively worsening. He has a caring and sensitive nature with an outgoing personality, but I was seeing more and more aggression, intolerance and frustration. He was particularly sensitive to sounds and had a very short fuse. There was also a lot conflict with sibling interaction. After two weeks on TLP, I saw immediate changes. (At this time I was also implementing dietary changes.) He was more gentle with people and animals, more affectionate and thoughtful, more interest in' music and more adventurous. At the same time he had some headaches and was angry. After completing TLP, the following changes have also made a positive impact on his life and family life. Now, A. interacts extremely well with adults, peers and especially his two sisters (which is so beautiful to see). He could always converse very well, but I would have to say his language skills have improved and he is extremely competent at expressing himself Another exciting change has been that A. now has the ability to play independently. He will complete puzzles, look at books (things he was too restless to do before). I see him using his imagination and being very comfortable with himself. He is also much more in control of his body. Initially, it was difficult at times to get A. to comply with his daily listening sessions. Although, he would enjoy listening to the music, he did protest. We have now almost completed our second time through the program and A. will happily listen and play. The stress in our lives has decreased significantly. We have so much more time available for having fun and enjoying each other's company. The Listening Program - Client Testimonial Since Damien has been on the Listening Program I have noticed some outstanding changes. He is a more confident speaker and now doesn't hesitate to speak in front of the class or at school assemblies. Others have mentioned that his speaking is a lot more clear during these times. Damien's energy is more levelled - he no longer yearns to be in front of the TV once school is over and prefers to be outside on his bike, scooter, or soccer ball. This has been a great change! His tolerance of noise is better also. He no longer worries about balloons popping or other loud noises which to me is a life-changing event and such a relief. Damien is very much into music now and has even spoken to me about joining the school choir next year. Although Damien's teacher hasn't noticed many changes in the classroom, at home I have noticed him having a more sensible attempt at spelling (when doing homework). He no longer rushes this part of the day and looks to see if a work 'looks right' and has adopted new strategies with multiple syllable words. Damien didn't do that before the program!
